Cross-Store Transfers

Consumers can move gift card balances between any stores on the Reload Network.

How transfers work

When a consumer transfers $100 from Store A to Store B:

  1. Store A's transfer is reversed — the original payment ($100) returns from Store A to the platform via Stripe Connect
  2. Store B receives real cash — $95 is transferred to Store B's Stripe account ($100 minus 5% platform fee)
  3. Gift card balances adjusted — Store A debited, Store B credited
  4. Consumer sees $100 at Store B — zero fees visible to the consumer

All transfer settlements are processed via Stripe Connect. Transfer reversals and new transfers are free on Stripe — no additional processing fees.

Why allow transfers?

You receive real cash

When a consumer transfers INTO your store, you receive real money in your Stripe account (minus 5% platform fee). This is not unfunded liability — you have actual cash to back the gift card.

You gain new customers

Every transfer INTO your store is a new customer with guaranteed spend. The 5% fee is your customer acquisition cost — cheaper than any ad campaign.

Fair for stores transferring OUT

When a consumer transfers OUT of your store, the original payment is reversed. You return funds for goods you didn't deliver — your balance sheet is clean. You keep all profit from purchases the consumer already made at your store.

Network effects

More stores on the network means more consumers. More consumers means more value flowing to each store. The network grows for everyone.

Enabling transfers

Go to Settings → Reload Network and toggle "Cross-Store Transfers" to enabled. You must accept the agent agreement first.

Monitoring transfers

View all transfer activity in your merchant dashboard under Activity. Each transfer shows the source/destination store, amount, and timestamp.
